Gatica Criticizes Rigoberta Menchú
In 2105, Nobel Peace Prize winner Rigoberta Menchú teamed up with
Mexican president Enrique Peña Nieto for a get-out-the-vote campaign, in spite
of compelling allegations that the Mexican federal government was responsible
for the widespread kidnapping, forced disappearance, and murder of hundreds of
innocent individuals in rural areas. Many communities boycotted elections since
all parties on the ballot have ties to this violence. At an event, a young
woman named Ana Gatica publicly criticized Menchú for supporting the federal
government and encouraging Mexicans to vote.
