RsvR: Acteal in Memory and in Pain

Within the national meeting of the Network against Repression and for Solidarity we declare:

Several days ago, in the month of November of this year, the lie called “Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation” ordered the liberation of three paramilitaries who participated in the murder of 45 indigenous people, women and men, from the Tzotzil community of Acteal, that tragic December 22nd, 1997. This date on the calendar represents one of the outrages against human dignity and historic memory. The people responsible for this genocide are the same who now have disappeared 43 Normalista students from Ayotzinapa: the State, having the federal Army as one of its fundamental pillars. The impunity which sheltered them in that time continues, making it clear that the strategy of counterinsurgent war continues operating against the indigenous communities in Chiapas.

We can find the murderers of 1997 as employees of transnational firms or as bureaucrats at the head of Government Cabinets. Ernesto Zedillo Ponce de León and Emilio Chuayffet are concealed by financial power and the paid media, who have hidden the truth of what happened in Acteal.

It does not surprise us, but it does not cease to make us outraged, that the behavior of the justices is due to political directive, as a reflection, not of an inefficient judicial system, but on the contrary, as part of its subordination to the mandate of the lords of money, and as a strategy to avoid, for almost fourteen years, lines of investigation which establish the responsibilities which have characters as sinister as those mentioned above. But we know that is not going to happen, the justices are accomplices and perpetrators of the Acteal massacre.

From the Network against Repression and for Solidarity we condemn these acts and we make a call to the compañeras and compañeros adherents to the Sixth Declaration of the Lacandon Jungle, according to your ways, times, and forms, to continue echoing that the crime of Acteal continues unpunished and to show our solidarity and compañerismo with the victims of this affront.

True justice will only come from below, with the have-nots of the Earth, it will be the result of mobilizations and organization, we will not tire of carrying on in its daily construction.

Justice for Acteal!
